About

Betty-and-Nancy-framed-DCPurple Swirl Arts is the business of Nancy Creighton, and includes artwork by Betty G. Miller. I am is a freelance graphic designer (among other things); Betty was a deaf visual artist, a painter famous in the deaf community. The photo in our banner is from Betty’s art show at NTID (National Technical Institute for the Deaf). Purple Swirl Arts sells designs on products at Cafepress, Zazzle and Printfection.

While my heart, and my training, is that of an artist, some people forget that about me. They think of me as a writer or an editor; or they think of me as a manager putting together projects (a producer, in other words); or they think of me as a webmaster or computer techie they can turn to when problems come up– and they are right. I’m all of that, and more. My strength is putting together books and magazines because the work involved uses the full range of my skills– editing and writing; layout and typography; photo manipulation and graphic design. My love is doing short term graphic design projects, things like cover designs, designs that go on products such as t-shirts and mugs, brochures and business cards. I relish that because it forces me to stretch and keep coming up with new ideas, and I enjoy being an “idea person.”

Tina Jo — it worked! I haven’t been on FB for months. I should, but it’s so overwhelming at times. Will contact you by email later this weekend. — NC

Hi…I am a deaf teacher and want to know what the art ” the three white chairs” means? What does it represent? Many thanks. Cathy Oshrain

Hi, Nancy, I ran across the “hand and heart” design that Betty drew. As I discovered Betty and now you as I researched this beautiful piece of art, I am overwhelmed by the rich meaning and history of Betty’s life and yours! I have a question about royalties, copyright, and usage as I am a pastor at a church wondering if we could use this design for our Kids Outreach Project called “City Kid Cafe.” Could I email you about this? as there is more to say… thanks, Chris
